International Entrepreneurship (IE) is defined as the discovery, enactment, evaluation and expansion of opportunities across national borders, to create future goods and services (as defined by Oviatt and McDougall).

Dr. Rose then went on to talk about how there had been a change in perspective in international business to include young, asset-constrained firms that are evolving and expanding rapidly. There was then a discussion on research being done on IE and IB and how clearer definitions are needed here and how context matters (in terms of differences in conditions of different countries) for companies.

Then Dr. Rose talked about her research regarding the differences between International New Ventures (INVs) and Traditionally Internationalizing Firms (TIFs). She also discussed how the study had revealed different measures of performance between the two kinds of firms and how managersperceived the success of their companies’ vis-à-vis their competitors and that knowledge and resulting isolations (because of the benefit of first mover advantage for INVs) led to better performance for both INVs and TIFs.After this the floor was open to the audience for questions, in which they participated enthusiastically.Dr. Rose also gave the students the idea of opting for International Entrepreneurship as their dissertation topic and also applauded the audience for their questions. All in all, the session with Dr. Rose proved to be an interesting and illuminating one.
