A few years back we use to have clear skies, unpolluted air and clean water. As the time preceded population increased, public demand started rising. Thus industrialization started taking place, the environment started getting more and more polluted. The harmful emissions expelled from the industries, automobiles created an increase in the GHG, ultimately increasing global warming.

With various environmental calamities like Amazon fire, Assam floods, Australian fire etc. a huge amount of our environmental flora and fauna is devastated. Averaged as a whole, the global land and ocean surface temperature for March 2020 was 1.16 degree Celsius above the 20th century average of 12.7 degree Celsius; this temperature was the second-highest in the 141-year record.

It is necessary to understand the importance of conserving the environment and taking the necessary steps for the same. We should adopt sustainable ways of living and try reducing our carbon footprint. In 2015, The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by all United Nations Member States to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people experience peace and prosperity by 2030. The 17 SDGs are no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and green energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, partnership for the goals, peace justice and strong institutions.

In our day to day life, we can adopt basic sustainable measures and contribute our bit to the environment. By learning the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and implementing them, using the public transport, considering organic farming, making use of solar energy, sorting the waste into dry and wet, looking for energy star products which are more energy-efficient, replacing non-biodegradable material with biodegradable material are few approaches we can look for. Many companies are also taking steps to pay more attention to the environmental health safety department. Various cement manufacturing companies use solid waste as raw material for the incineration process, thus reducing the landfill content.

By taking certain responsible steps towards the environment, we can all contribute towards environment conservation and safety. It’s the responsibility of each individual to contribute towards the safety of nature and save our nature and environment.
