Can a world without leaders exist? The answer lies in your definition of a leader. For me, a leader motivates and guides their followers and inspires passion. A leader has a vision and knows the path towards its realization. The ability to act independently, with accountability, and with enthusiasm is what a leader instils in their team members. Or, to simplify it – a leader guides his team with directions to follow.

A world without leaders is unimaginable, as the concept of leaders has been around since the very beginning of humanity. Firstly, In the hunter-gatherer era, a group leader used to give directions to the group. The leader in this era was chosen on merit, based on the activity to be performed.

Secondly, jumping forward a little, the era had kings and their kingdoms. These leaders again guided a whole kingdom’s worth of population and took humanity ahead with several innovations and development. These developments were technological as well as societal.

Lastly, moving a bit more forward on the timeline, the world was thrown into a turmoil of leadership with various government styles to measure which suits them best. The turmoil saw the world go through capitalism, democracy, dictatorship, and communism – an attempt toward making a world without leaders, but unfortunately, the model failed.

Today, the era in which we are living is an era where the leaders have grown a lot and are more competent than any leader in history. The leaders of today provide value to their followers. Leaders of today focus more on the development and growth of an individual. They know the importance of mental health and the well-being of a person. Today’s leaders are more accepting of the diversity found in the neighbourhood and practice inclusivity better than the leaders of older times.

Presently, information available to us is ubiquitous, and the volume in which this information is available is immense for everyone to understand. So, today we need leaders more than ever to interpret and process this information. We need leaders to plan for the future and guide the coming generation on how to face the consequences, which are the results of previous generations. In a world without leaders, the coming generation would have been clueless about what happened and what could happen.

Therefore, the answer to the question is to have leaders because they have always been there—an intrinsic part of our existence.
